Social Security Disability/Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
If you are disabled and unable to work, you may be entitled to Social Security Disability or SSI benefits.
Social Security Disability is an insurance program that pays monthly benefits to disabled people who have worked for a sufficient period of time to qualify for benefits.
SSI is a needs-based program (for those with limited income and assets) for disabled people who do not have enough work experience for Social Security Disability benefits.
Representation involves gathering and organizing medical and other records, submitting the appropriate documents to the Social Security Administration, and preparation for, and representation at, the hearing before the Administrative Law Judge. The fee is generally a percentage (25%) of past due benefits. There is no fee unless a successful result is obtained, and, of course, the initial consultation is free.
Workers’ Compensation Workers’ compensation benefits are available to workers who are injured on the job. Benefits include medical expenses, wage loss benefits, loss of the use of certain body parts, and scarring and disfigurement (limited to the head, neck and face).
Often times workers’ compensation cases are resolved by the payment of a lump-sum settlement to the injured worker.
The fee is generally a percentage (20%) of the benefits obtained. There is no fee unless a successful result is obtained, and, as in all cases, the initial consultation is free.
